I am a nephew of Eloise "Baldwin" Burgess, and cousin to Jim and Rose Ann Burgess. My Dad was Virgil Burgess and my mother was Hester Burgess. I remember coming to visit your family many times outside of Ironton. I was told by Jim that you might have information on the Felty and Burgess families. I would love to have anything that you have on these families. I look forward to talking to you.

My Grandfather's given name was "Harry Leroy Jackson", born April 15, 1913. He was advised that he was born in North Wales, Pa. *No birth cert was ever found. ((Note: he spent his whole life in search of who his mother was))
We found a christening certificate from Hydes, Md .. it lists Elizabeth Haas as his mother and as his father it listed Romaldo Jackson.
The man who "claimed" to be his biological father, stood as 'sponsor' for him at this christening and his name was Henry Jerome Jackson. *(Henry didn't raise him, Henry's parents did in Baltimore County Maryland.
If anyone can help me to solve this mystery, please contact me. nantzalot@aol.com
Thank you

Hi all,
Read with much interest your account of your line of Baldwins. My 4th great-grandfather, Allen Baldwin (1786?-1861) migrated from here (Rappahannock Co., VA) about 1835 and moved to Putnam County. He was father of seven children by his second wife, Melinda Wilson (1794-1901). I descend from Allen by son of his first wife. That son's name was Thomas William Baldwin (1820-8 May 1888) a private in CSA. In my research I found that Allen and Melinda's son John A.Baldwin who married Mary Gallespie had a son, John Baldwin who moved to Lawrence County, now West Virginia. This John married Cloe Tull and they had nine children. I had the privelidge to meet the last surviving daughter, Effie Baldwin, then at Purley's nursing home in Cold Point back in 1992.
I've also met many members of the descendants of John & Cloe in the Kitts Hill and Proctorville areas, we correspond with each other a couple of times a year.
I've always wondered if my Baldwins were related to yours, since some of yours were in the same area.
Enjoyed reading your Baldwin History. Thanks,
Wayne F. Baldwin
My great-grandmother was named Gelbhaus. I have no information about my genealogy. But I have reason to believe that I am related to the German Rabbi Sigmund Gelbhaus, who lived in Europe i the late 1800s. In one of his books, he wrote a dedication to his uncle Carl Haas (in Munich), whom I believe may have been a book dealer and possibly also a translator. If anyone has any info about Carl or his descendants, or knows of their connection to the Gelbhauses, I'd love to hear.

I just ran across your site. I have no idea if my family is related to your Haas family. My father was Bernard William Haas of Omaha, Nebraska. My mother was Jane Osborn Haas, my grandfather was Frederick Haas also of Omaha and my grandmother was Mary Haas. There are other Haas relatives in Omaha. I was born in Chicago, but all other Haas relatives stayed in Omaha. I'll have to look up what little information I have to see if I may have a connection with your Haas family.

Sara Mae Haas was a fine lady, aged approx. 85 years, and my mother-in-law. She passed away 6/2000. Her father was William Haas of Philadelphia, Pa., mother was Margaret Marsdon-Haas, sisters - Alice Haas-Starkey, and Helen Haas-Reynolds. Alice passed away 3/2004, Helen approx. 1970's. Margaret & Wm. Haas had more children but they died during the enormous flu epidemic of 1918. The memory of this never left Sara and colored her thinking about life expectancy. Her father died unexpectedly when she was sixteen; a Sunday afternoon on her bicycle when a neighbor called out the news to her. The family moved from a Victorian type country house on the outskirts of Philadelphia to a smaller house in the N.E. section of the city (Philadelphia). Alice and Sara became members of a church choir and it provided a social life and later they met and married their future husbands.
Can anyone add to this rememberance and for all the Haas families tuned in, are there any stories they would like to communicate.
